Why do newborns need chiropractic? If you have ever witnessed the amazing miracle of birth you may understand why a newborn deserves and needs a chiropractic examination. There are sometimes constraints in-utero that can contribute to stress or imbalance in the baby's nervous system even before arriving earth-side. And then there's labor and delivery! The word labor says it all. It's work! Hard work for mom and baby. Sometimes labor and delivery can go much longer, more difficult than expected, or completely different than planned! All of these stresses to the body and nervous system add up the need for a timely chiropractic exam. This special type of exam and care can help a baby's body unwind and balance after the stress of birth so that they can do what they do best, eat, sleep, and well, you know!
What happens during a newborn/toddler/child chiropractic visit? The initial visit is time for Dr. Carri to get to know your family, your little one, and hear their story. This includes prenatal history, birth history, up to present! Afterward a spinal, cranial, and nervous system exam is performed. Dr. Carri also evaluates a baby's mouth to screen them for lip/tongue/buccal ties. (these areas of congenitally tightened tissue in the mouth can lead to feeding issues and beyond). Many parents are pleasantly surprised at how thorough this exam is and how much information they receive that they haven't heard elsewhere! Once your little one has been through the examination process, or for regular visits, a gentle chiropractic adjustment is performed. Often newborns sleep through this part and toddlers and kiddos have fun while being adjusted. Dr. Carri uses cranial work, instruments, and/or her hands to make her adjustments.
What about me, I've never had chiropractic care? Aside from caring for children, Dr. Carri's favorite thing to do is to introduce brand new patients to the amazing, healing world of chiropractic! Her goal is to listen, evaluate, educate, and guide her patients. She has found with proper education, patients can't believe they have waited so long to experience the power of chiropractic! She utilizes many different tools to care for her patients and has found through proper communication, all people regardless of age, or condition, can benefit from her care.
What types of conditions do you treat? Chiropractic is a healing modality aimed at balancing the nervous system through adjusting the spine. The spine and nervous system are the master controllers of ALL function in the body, therefore, many different health "problems" can be positively impacted through regular chiropractic care! Imagine your whole body working optimally and with balance, there would be little to no more health "problems or conditions". To sum it up, Dr. Carri does not specifically "treat" any conditions, but works with you to optimize your nervous system health so your body can do what it already knows how to do!
Do you use any special tools or techniques in your practice? What's your specialty?
Well if you have read anything about Natural Life Chiropractic, you will see that one of Dr. Carri's areas of expertise is in prenatal/postnatal chiropractic care and she is Webster technique certified. She has done extensive training over several years with the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association. She is also a mom of two (with two VERY different births) and brings that experience to her knowledge base. She combines traditional chiropractic adjusting methods with a modern, instrument-aided approach that is suitable for all ages. In addition, she uses cranial sacral work when needed.
Can you recommend vitamins or supplements for my child or myself?
Yes! Part of Dr. Carri's initial evaluation is to evaluate for any nutritional, vitamin, or supplement need. Of course as a part of ongoing care additional recommendations can be made as needed!
